One of the most interesting phenomenons of recent art production is the direct preoccupation of artists with social realities, “art in public interest” (Werner Fenz). The results of such approaches are intended to flow back into social contexts and into public space in order to induce discussions and perhaps changes. The works of Gangart and of Wolfgang Temmel as well – this year’s Fotowochen-artists – always have been pronounced interfaces between art and public/social space. alien productions |

REPORTED
Thema & Ausgangssituation:
Ablauf:
Theme & starting position: Media reports on daily events convey differential places and shifted times, the experience of which is “remote” and insulates us from participation. In the workshop the narratives of journalistic coverage of events will be reopened and evidence collected at specific locations in the Wolkersdorf industrial park.
The analysis of these reports, the critical questioning of their sociopolitical dimensions, the interpretative recharging of the original – the article and media fragments – with the local evidence of the here and now, will be told in picture/picture or picture/text sequences.
Programme: Presentation and discussion of filmic and photographic/ textual reference works. Sample analysis of the picture politics of printed media. | Introduction of participants’ own work through an opening topic. Presentation of the relevant locations within the Wolkersdorf industrial park. | Work and supervision, partly individually and partly in teams. Some participation by Wolkersdorf residents is possible and welcomed. | Concluding exhibition in the form of a parcours at the locations of the events in the industrial park as well as in Schloss Wolkersdorf.

“Wolkersdorf”, a photo workshop
We will turn up in Wolkersdorf, take part in a workshop. It is about photography, about photography in a social context, about art in a social context.
We are holidaymakers in Wolkersdorf, art holidaymakers utilising the town as the setting for photographic productions. The town will be the most straightforward of backdrops and we will be the protagonists and creators of photographic works which closely scrape past normality – our own and also the normality of public spaces.
We will stage situations in which we (the entire group of participants) are observers and performers. Sometimes we will be behind the camera and will stage our ideas with other art holidaymakers. At other times we will be performers for the ideas of the others – individual pieces, series, sequences, photo stories, whatever.
Humour is not unwelcome.
The internet helps in the search for themes. Entering “Wolkersdorf” into an image search engine generates private and public pictures which have something to do with Wolkersdorf. The municipal website, the fire brigade, the football association, the very interesting ambiance of the shooting range, or “wodorf.hypermart.net”… the source of the pictures for the “Wolkersdorf” project. |
